Pondicherry Decoded

The best way to describe Pondicherry is “FRENCH RIVIERA in EAST”. Monsieur, Mademoiselle here goes the experience of strolling in Pondicherry….

Pondicherry is just one night drive from Bengaluru, ahh Bengaluru my heart cries out with joy whenever I think about this city. General expected things to observe include French culture, ashram, cafes, beaches and some great Scotty rides.

Since I travel solo my personal musings include local homestays, which helps me in venturing the local culture and yes lying beside a lonely beach alone and do absolutely nothing is what I always dreamt. The best part about solo trip are the freedom to do whatever you love to do and enjoying the auro culture to the fullest, defines awesomeness. Hell yeah! The peace and tranquillity in the ashrams is something that will awaken your inner conscience and refill you with great energy and excitement.

As usual I booked a home stay. The lady caretaker was a teacher in school and not to mention she was treating me none other than any other kid and was very affectionate. The tenderness in the behavior of the old age people truly adds a feeling of home away from home. Same day I booked a Scotty for myself for 3 days. The best part in the journey is having your own vehicle and Google maps are undoubtedly your best friends.

Pondy is a simple place with varied cultural people staying. There are a few heritage houses converted to restaurants, it is a must visit. La shante is one the best in decor and food.

One of the finest evening activity in pondy could be graffiti hunting. There are few places with some great wall paintings. You really need to dig around the place to find some good ones.

Next day I went on a visit to Auroville. Auroville is an experimental township founded by Sri Aurobindo Society in 1968, 10 kilometers from Pondicherry. Residents do not own any land in the township and engage in different occupations and activities to contribute to the township. Substantial tracts of land in Auroville lie empty. Roaming in auroville in a cycle will surely freshen you up. The day passes by walking around and sinking into the place and getting along with the culture. I had a thought of retiring in a similar place where you will sustain on your own talent.

The French colony is a silent place compared to other parts of the city. Evening strolls are a true piece of mind. Walking on the beach with splashes of water hitting is just splendid. Pondy has got some of the finest restaurants you can ever find in such a small place. Trying out different cuisines are a must do here.

Finally it was time to bid an adieu to a nice holiday and get back to Bengaluru. Here meeting my gang from my first company is a must do. The best quote that defines us is " Whatever we are friends for ever"  . Next day it was time to get back to workstation. As always for me the journey is important, if it is good then the destination is even better.

#NeverSettle
